Sermon Notes:
Are We There Yet?
Navigating the Parenting Journey
Proverbs 22:6 (AMP) Train up a child in the way he should go [and in keeping with his individual gift or bent], and when he is old he will not depart from it.
(Message) Point your kids in the right direction—when they're old they won't be lost.
Genesis 18:19 “I have singled him out so that he will direct his sons and their families to keep the way of the LORD by doing what is right and just. Then I will do for Abraham all that I have promised.”
This series is not just about parenting, it is about being parented. As adults, we must make sure we are allowing God to parent us. Along the way we have developed habits, world views, coping skills that may not line up with His Word and His plans for us. In this series we will hear some things that may challenge those things and we must be His children and let Him father us by bringing correction and discipline so we can then lead others.
The other big key to this series is it requires us to lead, to model these behaviors. Our children must see us leading the way. It is easier to lead than to drive and the results are much better (example of leading cows to the barn or driving them—you step in a lot of mess, you get kicked and the view is not too good).
