Sermon Notes:
Psalm 103:1-2 “Let all that I am praise the Lord; with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name. 2 Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me.”
Salvation, Week 1—This Blood:
Ephesians 2:13 “But now you have been united with Christ Jesus. Once you were far away from God, but now you have been brought near to him through the blood of Christ.”
Unwrapping the Gift of Salvation:
Salvation is a gift that keeps on giving. It is full of benefits and God wants every believer to know the full benefit package we get when we are saved by This Blood of Jesus. John 1:16 (Message) “We all live off Jesus’ generous bounty, gift after gift after gift.”
Salvation: A 3 part process that begins with an event and ends with a prize:
1. The Event: Have been saved from the penalty of sin (Matthew 1:21)
2. The Process: Are being saved from the power of sin (Our daily victory over sin. Romans 6:6-22; Revelation 12)
3. The Prize, Heaven: Shall be saved from the presence of sin (The rapture of the Church. 1 John 3:2)
We are lost. Luke 19:10
* 3 deaths (the Biblical definition of death never means cessation of life, it always means separation.)
- Physical: man’s spirit and soul are separated from man’s body
- Spiritual: man is separated from God. Man’s spirit is cut off from the life and nature of God—His Spirit
- Eternal or Second Death: man is forever separated from God and Heaven in Hell
* Sin separates us from God, causing death.
- Sin entered the human race through its 1st representative—Adam. (Genesis 5:3—Adam reproduced his own image) 1 Corinthians 15:21-22, 45; Romans 5
We need a Savior.
* John 3:1-7
- We must be born again
- We need a new nature
- We must experience a spiritual rebirth (our spirit is dead = separated)
- We won’t get to Heaven (eternal life vs. eternal death) without being born again
* John 3:16-17
- According to the Word, what must we do to be saved (found)? Believe in Him.
- Religion happens when we add anything to that. Religion is man’s attempt to cover our sin.
Salvation is a gift. Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8
* It must be accepted (a choice must be made) John 4:10
* It must be received (a gift received but unopened remains a mystery and does no good.) Romans 4:16
Salvation must be shared. (Grateful people are Gracious People--Make Him famous)
* 2 Corinthians 6:1-2 We must share this wonderful gift. That’s why the Psalmist starts his unpacking of salvation in Psalm 103 with the proclamation that he will always share it with others: Psalm 103:1-2
